Trailer for the audiovisual essay “The Revolution (is) Probable” by Lee Douglas, Maria Ruido, & Paula Barreiro López

La revolución (es) probable / The Revolution (is) Probable / A revolução (é) provável

A visual essay that draws on archival film images to create dialogue about experiences with political change in Spain and Portugal. The film juxtaposes images produced during the Portuguese Carnation Revolution and the Spanish Transition in order to understand how forms of violence permeated both societies. In doing so, it attempts to return the gaze between two countries whose parallel histories have often evaded forms of dialogue.

Co-directed with María Ruido and Paula Barreiro López, with research support from Paula Barreiro López. Collaborating projects include Decentralized Modernities & Militant Imaginaries, Colonial Memories.
